The Long Game. Shoes That Outlast the Trend Cycle

The Long Game. Shoes That Outlast the Trend Cycle

Shoe trends move faster than most wardrobes need them to. The pieces worth noticing are not always the loudest ones, but the shapes that quietly shift the mood of an outfit and stay relevant for more than one season.

The heeled thong is one of those silhouettes. Bare, minimal and easy. Its more refined evolution is already here: the T-strap sandal. It keeps the lightness of a barely-there shoe, while feeling more polished and intentional.

Slingbacks are another long-term choice. For everyday wear, the most modern versions are neither too sharp nor too delicate. A square toe or a soft almond shape makes them feel practical, elegant and easy to wear beyond one season.

Sneakers are becoming slimmer too. After the long wave of Sambas, Speedcats and retro trainers, the direction is lower, cleaner and more minimal.

The strongest and longest trend, however, belongs to flat shoes: loafers, derbies and brogues. They bring intelligence to a look. They ground tailoring, soften dresses and make even a sweatshirt feel more considered.

Mary-Janes remain, but the best versions are grown-up. Less doll-like, more refined. A thin strap, a soft square toe or a glove-fit shape makes them feminine without becoming childish. With jeans and a blouse, they feel romantic, but still modern.

And finally, wedges are returning in a quieter way. Not beachy, not heavy, but sculptural, low or mid-height, sometimes almost like a micro-wedge. With shorts or a summer dress, they add height without breaking the ease of the look.

The most modern shoe is not always the most noticeable one. Sometimes it is simply the one that brings the whole silhouette back to earth.

The European Shortcut

Birkenstocks are the unofficial passport to European summer style.

Slightly undone, they make almost any look feel relaxed.

A dress becomes less precious. Tailoring becomes softer.

They are here to say: I know a good bakery and  I walk everywhere.
